Welcome to the Health & Wellness Resource Center
Sycamore Canyon’s new Health & Wellness Committee is a sub-committee of the PTSA. Together with school staff, we seek to promote healthy living for our kids and their families. The goal of the Committee is to provide information that will help our students and their families make healthier choices today.

Numerous studies show that:
  • Developing good health habits – including making better food choices – provides numerous benefits to kids and the adults who support them.
  • When kids eat nutritious foods and get enough physical activity, their bodies and minds perform better.
  • Healthy kids actually are better prepared to learn and they miss fewer days of school.
  • Healthy kids are more likely to become healthy adults, increasing the possibility to avoid certain life-altering diseases later in life.
California has 3 million obese children and there is a growing concern nationwide that this generation of students’ life expectancy will be shorter than that of their parents!

Look for Health & Wellness articles in the Breeze, visit this site on a regular basis and share your healthy ideas and resources with others.

Your input will help shape this site, as well as future Health & Wellness programs. Please contact us with topic suggestions, articles, events, recipes, and any suggestions you may have.

We look forward to hearing from you!

The Health & Wellness Committee

 TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT
Launched last year by the PTSA Wellness Committee, Try It, You’ll Like It! is designed to introduce Sycamore Canyon kids to a variety of healthy foods and get them excited about trying something new.

Once a month during morning recess, K – 5th graders are being offered a sample of something healthy to taste – with clean hands of course! They will then have the opportunity to give them a thumbs up, or down, on the “Food Voting Board” and receive a fun sticker for simply tasting. In addition, a poster teaching kids where the food comes from, how it grows and unique food facts is hung at the tasting. During the last school year, 500+ kids tried sugar snap peas, kiwis, grape tomatoes, red peppers, and Asian pears.

Please visit the display outside the school library after the tasting to see how our kids voted.

A special thank you goes to Paraiso Family Dental and Orthodontics for sponsoring Try It, You'll Like It! for the second year in a row.
